i got chased by 3 dogs today. 3 different dogs, from 3 different farm houses. That's right.
I was out on a run and decided it would be safer to get off the highway and run on a dirt road. haha! ha.
I intended on going about 1 mile up the dirt road and turning back - making for a nice 4 mile afternoon run. Around the half-mile mark a dog began barking from the house across the street. I just kept running by, and what the fuck - but the dog runs out onto the street barking and running after me. I could feel him just behind me, no longer barking, but running very near my legs. Suddenly he (we) must have gotten too far past his property because he stopped running and began barking like mad again.
Now - that was 1. #2 was almost exactily the same - but just a little closer to my hopeful turn-around point.
At the 1 mile mark I was VERY reluctant to turn around and run past these dogs again. This time, I was sure, they'd be ready for me. Take me down as I approached. So I decided, there must be another road connecting to this road somewhere nearby. And, I would just run around the problem. I forgot this is Farming country in Nebraska. fuck. my 4 mile run turned into 7.75
and yes somewhere in there there was dog #3.
So in conclusion. Dogs make me a better runner.

Wow... I think the dogs would be the ONLY reason I'd run. eek. and yeah, they were probably just laying in wait. It's good you didn't go back. and also good that you're able to just be like "yeah, i'll just run twice as far and that'll be fine." some of us would die. me. i would die.
